Vitamin D3 Overdose: Is It Even Possible?
Is it Possible to Overdose on Vitamin D3?
February 13, 2010
First, let us establish that Vitamin D3 is just that --- a Vitamin. It is not a pharmaceutical drug or some kind of herbal or other health supplement.
That said, for one to overdose on the nutrient would require deliberately ingesting far more of high-potency supplement form Vitamin D3 than the recommended dosage.
In addition, the term 'side effects' in the traditional sense as the term applies to drugs and other supplements does not really apply to Vitamin D3 in that same sense. Unless one were to ingest ridiculous amounts of the nutrient in supplement-form, there are no known negative side-effects of Vitamin D3.
That said, there are some individuals who may be allergic or who are hypersensitive to the nutrient. Those individuals (and anyone else for that matter) should consult a physician if they encounter any adverse reaction to a Vitamin D3 supplement.
Of course, it is theoretically possible to overdose on D3 supplements, but one would essentially being trying to do so deliberately because of the sheer amount it would take in order for that to occur.
There are no documented cases of Vitamin D3 overdose and/or toxicity resulting from D3 obtained through sun exposure, at least not to the very best of my knowledge and those of my sources.
